Ex-USA Gymnastics CEO refuses to answer questions on sex abuse scandal

Ex-USA Gymnastics CEO Steve Penny refused to answer questions about the organization’s sexual abuse scandal and Larry Nassar‘s crimes in a Senate subcommittee hearing Tuesday.

Penny used his fifth amendment right to refuse to answer questions in his first public appearance since resigning on March 16, 2017, after serving in his role while Nassar sexually abused gymnasts both with the national team and at Michigan State as a team doctor.

The former senior vice president of USA Gymnastics said she was instructed to keep quiet after she informed her boss about allegations of sexual abuse by Nassar.
