Dominant U.S. Women Repeat as Water Polo Champions

Ashleigh Johnson made nine saves and Kiley Neushul scored three times, helping the United States beat Italy, 12-5, on Friday in the water polo final of the Rio Olympics.

The Americans stretched their winning streak to 22 games with their sixth victory in Rio. Those six wins came by a combined score of 73-32.

The United States also won gold in London in 2012. The Americans are the only two-time winners since the women’s tournament was added to the Games in 2000.

Federica Radicchi scored two goals for Italy, which had also won its first five games in Rio.
