Dilma Rousseff, suspended Brazilian president, to receive Opening Ceremony invite

Suspended Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff was prepared to climb a tree to watch the Rio Games if she had to. That won’t be necessary.

She will be invited at least to the Opening Ceremony as a former president of Brazil, according to reports. That will take place Aug. 5, kicking off the first Olympics in South America

Elected in 2011 and re-elected in 2014, Rousseff is set for an impeachment trial, expected to be ongoing during the Olympics, after allegedly breaking budget laws. The country’s first female president denies wrongdoing. She has not been completely removed from office, but had to be suspended as part of the impeachment trial.
