Gerek Meinhardt of the United States faced Kirill Borodachev of the Russian Olympic Committee in a semifinal bout in men’s team foil fencing. The Americans lost 41 to 45 and went on to defeat Japan, earning a second consecutive bronze medal in the event.
Back in the Spotlight
After withdrawing from the team final, Simone Biles made a return to competition in the individual balance beam final. She performed two back handsprings into a double back flip in the pike position on her dismount and won the bronze medal.
