GANGNEUNG, South Korea — As if the United States men’s curling team needed extra motivation ahead of their match for gold against Sweden at Gangneung Curling Centre, a fan from back home wanted to call in to wish the players luck.
But not just any fan: Mr. T, the former “A-Team” star and Rocky Balboa nemesis, who has been a vocal supporter throughout the Olympics. He has even popularized his own hashtag: #curlingiscoolfool.
“I love what you’re doing!” Mr. T told the American team.
The call appeared to have its intended effect.
“I’m ready to run through a wall,” the American curler Tyler George wrote on Twitter.
