Four years after taking silver in the women’s triple jump, Colombia’s Caterine Ibarguen won gold Sunday night in Rio.
Ibarguen’s best jump of 15.17 meters came on her fourth attempt, with that being enough to seal her first Olympic gold medal. Taking silver was Yulimar Rojas of Venezuela with a long of 14.98 meters, and Kazakstan’s Olgan Rypakova took bronze with a long of 14.74 meters.
The lone American in the field was Keturah Orji, who at 14.71 meters just missed out on a medal by placing fourth. Orji’s best jump, which established a new American record, came on her first attempt.
