Clement picks up where US left off _ with more gold

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Kerron Clement picked up on Thursday where the United States left off on the sultry evening before — hauling in more gold.

And where things could have gone really badly, with the U.S. women's 4x100-meter relay team failing to get the baton around, the 2012 champions successfully protested that Allyson Felix was bumped by a Brazilian runner in her handover. They'll get another chance to qualify later Thursday with a solo run — a time faster than 42.70 seconds will be good enough to get them in.

Highlighting how the U.S. team feeds off each other, Ashton Eaton briefly took time off his decathlon to congratulate Clement as he lay exhausted in the midday sun after his 400-meter hurdles final.
