Chinese Pair Wins a Final Gold in Figure Skating

Sui Wenjing and Han Cong of China won the pairs event on Saturday at Capital Indoor Stadium, capping two tumultuous weeks of figure skating at the Beijing Games that included record-setting performances, competitive firsts and a doping dispute that upended the women’s singles competition.

It was a redemption for Sui and Han: They had victory within their grasp at the 2018 Olympics, but lost the gold medal by a mere 0.43 points. On Saturday they edged out Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov of Russia — by 0.63 points.

Sui and Han, who received loud cheers from the few hundred Chinese fans in attendance, set world records for their short program score and total score.
