Boston’s 2024 Olympic Bid Faces Skepticism Despite New Proposal, Poll Finds

Statewide support in Massachusetts for holding the 2024 Summer Olympics in Boston appears to have inched up slightly since organizers proposed a new plan last month, but it remains tepid, and more voters still oppose the move than support it.

In the first poll conducted since the new proposal was presented by Boston 2024, the private group organizing the bid, 42 percent of voters in the state said they supported Boston’s hosting the Olympics, while 50 percent said they opposed it. The poll was conducted for WBUR, one of Boston’s NPR radio stations.

The July number shows minimal improvement from June, when 39 percent supported Boston’s hosting the Games and 49 percent opposed it — well within the poll’s margin of sampling error of plus or minus four percentage points.
