Austrian skiing gold medalist Marcel Hirscher eager for home cooking

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea — Marcel Hirscher, the Austrian ski racer who on Sunday won his second gold medal of the 2018 Winter Olympics with a victory in the men’s giant slalom, sounds eager to get home — and to get some European cuisine.

“Sorry friends of Asia, but now I can’t see rice anymore,’’ he said with a smile at his post-race news conference on Day 9 of the Games.

Hirscher apparently arrived here 2½ weeks ago, as he added, “Two and half weeks of rice for a European guy pretty much (is enough).’’

But don’t expect Hirscher to leave any earlier than Thursday, when he’ll be favored to win the men’s slalom.
