Austria goes 1-2 in last Alpine skiing World Cup of 2020

BORMIO, Italy (AP) — Matthias Mayer edged Vincent Kriechmayr for an Austrian 1-2 finish in the classic men’s World Cup downhill on the Stelvio on Wednesday.

In a spectacular race on one of the circuit’s most challenging courses, Mayer beat Kriechmayr’s time by four-hundredths of a second as Austria earned its first win of the World Cup season.

Switzerland’s Urs Kreyenbuehl was 0.06 behind in third.

Dominik Paris, who won the previous four downhills on the hill in the Italian Alps, led Mayer by 0.08 at the second split time but at the end trailed by 0.
