Annemiek Van Vleuten Injury: Updates on Cyclist's Concussion, Spine and Recovery

Annemiek van Vleuten suffered three fractures in her spine and a severe concussion following her horrible crash during the women's Olympic cycling road race in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, per Orla Chennaoui of Sky Sports:

Update on Annemiek Van Vleuten: 3 fractures in her lumbar spine and heavy concussion. No internal bleeding and no further abnormalities.

The Dutch cyclist, a member of professional team Orica-AIS, held a marginal lead heading into the final 12 kilometres of the race before suffering the terrifying accident.

While struggling to make the turn on a sharp right-hand bend, Van Vleuten flipped over her handlebars, landing on top of her head before her contorted body lay motionless.
