Americans Adrian, Dressel qualify for 100 free final

American swimmer Nathan Adrian was fortunate to qualify for the semifinal heats of the 100 meter freestyle, as a poor race in the opening qualifying heats left him 16th among those who made the cut. Adrian made up for that poor afternoon race by posting the fastest time of the semifinal heats, finishing in 47.83 seconds to grab the top seed for Wednesday’s final.

Adrian’s time was five one-hundredths of a second better than that of Australia’s Kyle Chalmers, who won the second heat with a time of 47.88. Australia and the United States will each have two swimmers in the final, with Australia’s Cameron McEvoy and the United States’ Caeleb Dressel both qualifying.
