American Galloway takes bronze in women’s +67 kg taekwondo

On the final day of the competition, the U.S. won its first taekwondo medal in Rio.

Jackie Galloway took bronze with a 2-1 victory over France’s Gwladys Epangue, winning her first Olympic medal. Galloway bounced back from a tough loss to eventual silver medalist Maria del Rosario Espinoza of Mexico in the semifinal round to take bronze. Four years ago Galloway, who was 16 at the time, was an alternate on Mexico’s Olympic taekwondo team but did not get to travel to London.

Winning gold was Zheng Shuyin of China, who defeated Espinoza 5-1 in the gold medal match.
