RIO DE JANEIRO — American Alexander Massialas won the silver medal in individual men's foil, falling to Daniele Garozzo of Italy 15-11 in the final.
Massialas won the first U.S. Olympic men's foil medal since 1960, when Albie Alexrod won the bronze.
The American mounted a major comeback in the quarterfinals against Italy's Giorgio Avola to advance.
