Defending European champion Alina Zagitova easily topped the ladies’ short program on Wednesday in Belarus. The reigning Olympic champion totaled 75.00 points in her “Phantom of the Opera” short program despite an under-rotation call on her tripe-Lutz, triple-loop combination to open the program.
Countrywoman Sofia Samodurova sits in second place with 72.88 points while Switzerland’s Alexia Paganini is third going into Friday’s free skate with 65.64 points.
NBC Sports Gold’s “Figure Skating Pass” will live stream every program from Minsk continuing on Wednesday with the pairs’ short program.
