After delay, Shiffrin will compete in a final race for the U.S.

Mikaela Shiffrin came into the Beijing Olympics with the goal of competing in five events. She did so, though she fell short of her larger ambitions when she failed to finish three races and placed ninth and 18th in two others.

She was scheduled to compete in her sixth race on Sunday, the only mixed-gender ski racing event at the Winter Games.

The event — which resembles parallel slalom, where two skiers go head-to-head on identical courses — was first held at an Olympics in 2018.

In the first round, two women and two men from the United States, including Shiffrin, will race against counterparts from Slovakia.
