NORFOLK, Va. - Kira Laurento gave Old Dominion University women's soccer a 1-0 lead over East Carolina six minutes in but the Pirates tied the score early in the second half and that was all the scoring in a 1-1 season-opening tie.
Just six minutes in, Emma Gervase tapped a pass to Laurento who blasted a shot off the finger tips of ECU goalie Melanie Stiles.
In the 14th minute, ECU's Kim Sanford earned a red card for taking down Iris Achterhof and the Pirates played a player down for the final 76 minutes.
In the 47th minute, ECU tied the score as Daria Draovitch lofted in a cross to Tori Riggs who lifted a header into the top corner of the goal to knot the score at one.
