(WAVY) — Old Dominion linebacker T.J. Ricks was named first-team All-Conference USA, becoming the first defensive player from ODU to win the award.
Ricks led the Monarchs with 93 tackles and recorded five tackles for loss and a sack. He forced and recovered a pair of fumbles, both in the Southern Miss contest, and broke up four passes. Ricks was a walk-on at ODU out of Kecoughtan High School in Hampton.
“I feel like I can be an inspiration to a lot of players in high school that don’t have any offers that walk on somewhere and showing them that hard work pays off, staying dedicated to what you do and never giving up,” Ricks said.
