The Old Dominion women opened the Conference USA tennis tournament with a 4-0 defeat of Texas-El Paso on Thursday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
The Monarchs, seeded third, earned the doubles point and got singles victories from Louie McLelland at No. 6, Victoria Olivarez at No. 4 and Holly Hutchinson at No. 1.
McLelland won by default, Olivarez, a First Colonial alum, took a 5-1 lead in the first set when her opponent retired and Hutchinson defeated Lois Wagenvoort 6-0, 6-2.
ODU (18-4), which has won 10 of its past 11, takes on sixth-seeded North Texas in a quarterfinal at 2 p.
