Taylor Heinicke could miss 3 months after off-field injury

(WAVY) — Former Old Dominion quarterback Taylor Heinicke is making national headlines, but not for his record-setting career with the Monarchs.

Heinicke, entering his second season with the Minnesota Vikings, reported to training camp on Thursday with his left leg in a cast.

Heinicke told media members in the Minnesota that he injured his left ankle after he and a friend returned home from a movie only to realize Heinicke didn’t have his keys. Heinicke said he tried to nudge open a double-glass door when his “foot kind of slipped and it went through a window.”

ESPN is reporting that Heinicke severed a tendon in his ankle and could miss up to three months.
