Simms scores 33 points as ODU women hold off North Texas 62-55

It's been a tough season for the Old Dominion women's basketball team. A string of injuries reduced the roster to nine able-bodied players, and the Lady Monarchs have endured several heartbreaking defeats.

But things would be so much worse were it not for Jennie Simms.

The junior guard poured in 33 points to lead ODU past North Texas 62-55 Thursday night at the Constant Center. That comes five days after Simms, who averages 20.8 points, scored 39.

"Jennie has done so much for this team," said ODU coach Karen Barefoot. "She deserves serious consideration for Conference USA Player of the Year.
