Pair of second-half goals powers Liberty past No. 22 Old Dominion in field hockey

Liberty scored twice in the second half Friday afternoon, defeating No. 22 Old Dominion 2-0 in a Big East field hockey game at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

Mallory Fortenbaugh (44th minute) and Moniek Van Aarle (59th) scored for the Lady Flames (9-3, 4-0).

The Monarchs (7-4, 1-3 Big East) had five consecutive penalty corners, but Liberty's defense held, blocking a flurry of shots from Rebecca Birch.

The Lady Flames had advantages of 12-7 in shots and 7-5 in corners. Kealsie Robles made seven saves for ODU, which has dropped four straight. The Monarchs host fourth-ranked Duke at noon Sunday.
