Old Dominion goalkeeper Mertcan Akar of Germany was named Conference USA Defender of the Week in men's soccer on Monday.
The sophomore transfer from Belmont University notched his second shutout of the season against Florida Atlantic. He has played all 580 minutes in goal for the Monarchs.
For the second time in three weeks, ODU senior captain Jackie Stroud was named the conference Defender of the Week on the women's side. She played every minute in two double-overtime victories and scored her fourth goal of the season in Sunday's win at Richmond.
