Old Dominion opens baseball season by splitting doubleheader with High Point

Old Dominion opened its college baseball season by splitting a doubleheader Friday with High Point at Bud Metheny Complex.

Right-handers Nick Pantos and Hunter Gregory (Hickory) combined on a seven-hitter, giving the Monarchs a 7-0 win in Game 1 — their third shutout in the past four season openers.

Pantos went five innings to get the win, allowing two hits and walking four. Gregory allowed five hits and struck out four in four innings. Matt Schwartz, Vinnie Pasquantino and Tommy Bell each had two hits for the Monarchs, who scored three runs in the first inning. Schwartz had two RBIs and Pasquantino hit a solo home run.
