NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion (1-1) men’s wrestling team defeated Gardner Webb (0-3), 30-3 and fell to No. 24 Northwestern (2-0), 17-16 on Sunday afternoon in front of over 500 fans.
The highlight of the day was nearly defeating Big 10 team and No. 24 ranked Northwestern. Although down a starter at 184, ODU rallied until the very last minute. Picking up a major decision against Northwestern, Alex Madrigal defeated Alec Mckenna, 12-1 at 141.
“I was pleased with how hard we wrestled in both matches, especially this Big 10 team. We fought very hard and it came down to inches,” explain head coach Steve Martin.
