ODU's Rutherford goes in round 6 of MLB draft to Tampa Bay

Old Dominion shortstop Zach Rutherford, a junior product of Western Branch High, was taken in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball draft Tuesday by Tampa Bay.

Also taken by mid-afternoon Tuesday were William & Mary's Nick Raquet (round 2), Virginia's Ernie Clement (round 4) and William & Mary's Cullen Large (round 5).

Rutherford hit .332 this season with 25 doubles – one of the top figures in the nation – to go with two home runs and 56 RBIs and made first-team All Conference USA.

He was the The C-USA Defensive Player of the Year after leading the conference with 196 assists – 28 more than any other player.
