Western Branch High grad Zach Rutherford, who enjoyed a strong first half of the Cape Cod League season this summer, continued the momentum over the weekend by being named the MVP of the league's all-star game in Chatham, Mass.
A rising junior at Old Dominion, Rutherford went 3-for-3, including a home run, and knocked in two runs to lead his West team to an 8-0 victory.
Rutherford, who plays for the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, was the starting shortstop in the game. In addition to his second-inning solo homer, had an infield hit in the fourth and a double in the sixth.
