Old Dominion's Jared Young became the second Monarch to go in this year's Major League Baseball draft when he was taken in the 15th round Wednesday by the Chicago Cubs.
Young, a junior second baseman, was a third-team All-American, as chosen by Collegiate Baseball News, making him the first Monarch on the CBN team since 2007.
The transfer from Connors State Community College in Oklahoma has played just one year at ODU, but he made the most of it. Young led the team in a host of offensive categories, including average (.367), triples (4), home runs (7), runs (57), stolen bases (9) and OPS (1.
