Jack Dechow defeated the defending NCAA champion at 174 pounds.

Old Dominion’s Jack Dechow defeated Ohio State’s Myles Martin 7-4 at 174 pounds Thursday to reach the semifinals of the Midlands Championships wrestling tournament at Northwestern University. Martin is the defending NCAA champion.

Soon after, the Monarchs’ Kevin Beazley defeated Princeton’s Brett Harner 5-2 to reach the 197-pound semifinals. Harner was an All-American last season.

Seldon Wright (Oscar Smith) went 3-1 on the day at 165 before medically forfeiting. ODU’s Kevin Budock (141) and Abner Romero (165), competing unattached, each earned two victories.
