NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion wrestling signees George Walton (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) and Mason Wohltman (Orlando, Fla./Lake Highland Prep) captured state titles over the weekend, as Walton won his first New Jersey state title at 182 lbs. while Wohltman captured his third Florida 1A state crown at 138 lbs.
Walton opened the New Jersey state tournament with three consecutive pins, including an 18-second fall in the opening round. In the semi-finals, the Bound Brook grappler defeated Dominic Mainiero from Queen of Peace by a narrow 6-5 TB decision to reach Sunday's state championship match. In the finals, the future Monarch topped Sam Wustefeld from Scotch Plains-Fanwood, 5-4, to earn his first state championship title.
