ODU wrestlers come up empty at Midlands

The Old Dominion wrestling team didn’t make out of the first day of the Midlands Championships hosted by Northwestern at Sears Centre Arena.

Michael McGee dropped his opening bout at 125 pounds Saturday but won three consolation matches before falling to Brandon Cray of Maryland.

Savion Hawyood (133) dropped his opening bout but won 13-5 over Penn’s Tristin DeVincenzo in a consolation match before falling by pin to Northwestern’s Anthony Rubinetti.

Killian Cardinale and Tyler Delaware, also wrestling at 133 pounds, opened with two straight losses.

Kenan Carter (149) took a medical forfeit and Shane Jones (165) lost back-to-back bouts in overtime.
