Old Dominion wrestler Michael McGee has been named the MAC Freshman of the Year, the conference announced Wednesday.
The Illinois native won the 125-pound MAC Championship, the first true freshman in any weight class to win the MAC in four years. He was one of only 16 true freshmen who qualified for the NCAA Championships, and he finished with a 29-10 record.
McGee lost just one MAC dual match this season.
“Michael McGee winning this award is a testament to his work ethic, drive and determination to be the best,” said ODU coach Steve Martin. “What makes this also special is that this is the first time one our guys has won the MAC Freshman of the year.
