To the delight of about 6,000 Norfolk public school children screaming their support, the Old Dominion women's basketball team won its first game under head coach Nikki McCray Thursday morning.

ODU rallied from a six-point deficit and before pulling away to a 73-65 victory over Coppin at the Constant Center. The Monarchs (1-6), who are rebuilding under McCray, the former South Carolina assistant, had opened the season with six straight losses.

ODU rolled to a 38-20 lead late in the second half on a 3-point shot by Kelly Loftus and led 38-25 at halftime. But then the Monarchs went cold against a swarming Coppin State zone.
