Erin Huffman scored two goals, and the 23rd-ranked Old Dominion field hockey team rebounded from a season-opening loss with a 4-2 win over No. 21 American on Sunday at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
Coming off Friday's 3-2 defeat by No. 7 Penn State, the Monarchs took control with three unanswered goals.
Huffman netted her second goal in the 22nd minute for a 2-1 lead, Danielle Grega addded a score in the 42nd, and Alexa Ostoich gave ODU a 4-1 cushion in the 47th.
Ostoich also had two assists.
The Monarchs visit No. 19 James Madison on Wednesday in their first road game of the season.
