Connor Myers hit a two-run single and Justin Hayes and Grey Finwood added RBI singles in a five-run fifth inning for Old Dominion, which beat Rutgers 7-4 to sweep their non-conference baseball doubleheader Saturday at Bud Metheny Complex.
Nick Lustrino’s seventh-inning RBI double broke a 1-1 tie in the Monarchs’ 4-2 victory in the opener.
Lustrino had three hits on the day, while Hayes, Myers, Zach Rutherford (Western Branch) and Kurt Sinnen (Kellam) had two apiece for the Monarchs (9-1).
Morgan Maguire and Thomas Busbice earned the wins in relief. Sam Sinnen, Kurt’s twin, threw six shutout innings in the opener, allowing two hits, but didn’t factor in the decision.
