Nick Walker (Kellam High) drove in three runs and Zach Rutherford (Western Branch) had three hits and two RBIs Saturday as Old Dominion beat Alabama-Birmingham 7-4 in the first game of a Conference USA doubleheader at the Bud Metheny Complex.
ODU (27-17, 10-11) dropped the nightcap 6-3.
ODU took command early in Game 1, scoring all seven of its runs in the first four innings. Victor Diaz (6-3) allowed four runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings for the victory.
In the nightcap, the Blazers (18-24, 10-11) broke a 3-all tie with three runs in the top of the ninth.
