ODU settles for doubleheader split at UAB

Brett Blackwood batted 3 for 3 with two runs scored, and Alabama-Birmingham salvaged a split with an 8-4 win in Game 2 of a Conference USA baseball doubleheader on Saturday at Young Memorial Field.

The loss dropped ODU (31-14, 15-8) into a tie with Florida Atlantic for second place behind Southern Miss (36-12, 18-5).

Carson Jones (3-3) pitched 5.2 innings for the win, giving up six hits and three earns runs while striking out four. Adam Bainbridge (7-2) took the loss after allowing 11 hits and seven runs, six earned, in five innings.

Kellam High grad Nick Walker's two-run single put the Monarchs ahead in the first inning before the Blazers rallied with a three-run second.
