ODU men edge Appalachian State in soccer opener

Max Wilschrey punched in the winner in the 84th minute, lifting the Old Dominion men’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over shorthanded Appalachian State on Friday at the ODU Soccer Complex in the season opener for both.

Brandon Perdue, a freshman from Chesapeake, found the ball in the box in the 47th minute and sent it in for a 1-0 Monarchs lead.

The MountaineersMoutaineers, playing a man down after a red card on Juan Hernandez in the 20th minute, tied it off of a free kick 53 seconds later.

Perdue also assisted on Wilschrey’s goal.
