Old Dominion's baseball team learned Monday that its struggles at the end of the season weighed more heavily than its strong start, as the Monarchs were left out of the NCAA tournament field.
ODU finished 37-21, had 18 wins over RIP Top 100 teams and eight over Top 50 teams. But that was overshadowed for the selection committee by losses in five of its final seven games.
The Monarchs, who won 10 of their first 14 games, also swept C-USA tournament winner Rice in a three-game series in March. Monday, they ended up among the first four to be left out of the NCAA tournament.
