Margot van Hecking Colenbrander and Charlotte Veitner scored two goals apiece, and the top-ranked Connecticut field hockey team pulled away for a 6-0 win over Old Dominion in a Big East Conference opener Friday at the Sherman Family Sports Complex.
The Huskies (6-0, 1-0) broke open a close game with five second-half goals and snapped the Monarchs’ two-game win streak.
ODU (3-4, 0-1) is 7-16 all-time against No. 1-ranked teams.
The Monarchs continue conference play next Friday, hosting Georgetown.
