George Town, Grand Cayman – The Old Dominion men's basketball team (3-3) fell to George Mason (6-1) by a 60-53 score on Monday night in the first of three games for the Monarchs in the 2019 Cayman Islands Classic at the John Gray Gymnasium. The Monarchs held a lead for 24:36, while GMU led for 11:09, as the game experienced a total of nine lead changes and seven ties.
With 11:34 to play, a Jason Wade lay-in extended ODU's lead to seven, 43-36. Mason answered with a 18-4 run, claiming a 54-47 lead at the 3:16 mark, before Marquis Godwin drilled back-to-back three-pointers to cut ODU's deficit to one, 54-53, with 1:15 to play.
