ODU falls to ex-CAA rival VCU in nonconference baseball finale

Josh Simon and Zac Ching batted in three runs apiece Tuesday, and Virgia Commonwealth pulled away for a 9-3 over Old Dominion in a nonconference baseball at The Diamond.

Simon finished 2 for 3, and his two-run single fueled the Rams’ four-run sixth inning. Ching batted 3 for 5.

Matt Schwarz and Kyle Battle hit solo home runs for the Monarchs (15-34), who dropped their second straight. Battle also tripled.

Benjamin Dum (2-0) earned the win with four innings of relief. He gave up two runs on four hits. ODU Starter Jason Hartline (2-4), a Greenbrier Christian grad, took the loss and was also tagged for two runs on four hits over four innings.
