WASHINGTON -- The Old Dominion wrestling team (6-10, 2-5 MAC) fell to American (4-8, 0-7 EIWA), 25-14, in Washington, D.C. Sunday afternoon in the Monarchs' final road dual meet of the season.
The match began at 133, where American fifth-year senior Esteban Gomez-Rivera held on to a 4-3 victory over Alex Madrigal after securing two first period takedowns. The Eagles' Jack Mutchnik followed up at 141 with a 5-4 decision in the second set of tiebreakers via more accumulated riding time to give American a 6-0 lead.
At 149, American's Michael Sprague broke open a 4-4 deadlock by coming out on top of a scramble and securing a fall over Michael Hayes at the 6:29 mark to give the Eagles a 12-0 lead.
