ODU baseball team settles for doubleheader split vs. West Virginia

Shaun Wood hit a walk-off grand slam in the ninth inning of Game 1, and the Old Dominion baseball team settled for a doubleheader split against West Virginia on Friday at the Bud Metheny Complex.

Wood, who transferred from West Virginia, blasted a two-out pitched over right field to cap a five-run ninth and lift the Monarchs (10-4) to an 8-4 win in the opener.

Chase Illig's two-run homer sparked a three-run fourth inning for the Mountaineers (8-6).

Western Branch High grad Zach Rutherford and Vinnie Pasquantino notched RBI singles as the Monarchs rallied with a three-run sixth.
