Matt Schwarz scored on an errant pickoff attempt in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday, giving Old Dominion a 3-2 nonconference baseball victory over Rutgers at Bud Metheny Complex.
With the score tied and two out, Schwarz and Vinnie Pasquantino singled, giving the Monarchs runners at first and third.
Scarlet Knights right-hander Tommy Genuario came in to face Andy Garriola, and before he threw a pitch, attempted to pick off Pasquantino. But the first baseman wasn't on the bag and the ball got away, allowing Schwarz to score easily and giving ODU (6-2) its fourth straight victory.
