Monarchs score five runs in fifth to win home finale

Old Dominion scored five runs on five hits in the fifth inning Sunday to defeat Middle Tennessee 6-2, clinching the Conference USA baseball series on Senior Day at Bud Metheny Complex.

The teams split the first two games.

With the Monarchs trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Nick Walker (Kellam) hit a one-out double, then scored the tying run on a single by Zach Rutherford (Western Branch). Following a single by Kurt Sinnen (Kellam), Connor Myers hit a two-run double down the left-field line to give ODU the lead.

Jason McMurry's RBI single and a squeeze bunt by Darius Gillus capped the scoring and marked the 19th time the Monarchs have scored four or more runs in an inning this season.
