Monarchs get three hits in fifth straight Conference USA loss

Three Florida Atlantic pitchers limited Old Dominion to three hits Saturday in the No. 17 Owls’ 3-1 Conference USA win at Bud Metheny Complex.

Right-hander Marc Stewart held the Monarchs without a hit until the seventh inning, when Zach Rutherford (Western Branch) led off with an inside-the-park home run – his first career homer.

Two outs later, Kurt Sinnen (Kellam) singled and Will Morgan doubled, giving ODU runners at second and third. But Chris Livers (First Colonial) grounded out to end the inning. The Monarchs were retired in order in the final two innings.

The Owls scored all their runs in the third inning.
