Blake Benefield drove in seven runs and Middle Tennessee broke open a close game with a four-run eighth inning Saturday in a 10-5 Conference USA victory over Old Dominion at the Bud Metheny Complex.
The Monarchs (30-20, 13-13) trailed 6-5 entering the eighth. Benefield's two-run single was the big hit in the inning.
Benefield went 3 for 4, including a two-run homer in the first, a two-run single in the fifth and a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Nick Walker (Kellam High) had a three-run double in the second and Will Morgan went 2 for 4, including a solo homer in the third, to pace the Monarchs' offense.
