Golfer, field hockey player selected ODU's top all-around athletes for 2017-18

Golfer Chad Hess and field hockey standout Danielle Grega were named the inaugural winners of the John R. Broderick Award as Old Dominion’s best all-around athletes, while soccer players Jackie Stroud and Mertcan Akar were named as Alumni Association Athletes of the Year on Monday.

The four were among those honored at the school’s athletic honors banquet.

Hess averages a team-best 74.9 strokes per round and has been the top Monarch in four of the eight tournaments played. She has a 3.82 GPA in elementary education. Grega was one of six unanimous selections on the All-Big East first team after finishing second on the team in scoring (20 points).
